At The Heritage Community Garden
Saturday 15th of December – 11am to 3pm
€5 for Community Garden Volunteers – €20 for general public.
Bring Secateurs, loppers and Branch Saws if available. 

Workshop will concentrate on the winter pruning and renovation of the 200 year old heritage apple trees at The Heritage Community Garden

We will also look at:

  • The Physiology of Fruit- Understanding fruit tree growth
  • Developing a Tree – Pruning techniques for all ages of fruit trees
  • Tools & Hygiene
  • Explaining grafting and rootstocks

This is an ideal opportunity to learn about the care and overwinter maintenance of fruiting trees while working with dozens of beautiful heritage variety apple trees in a walled garden.

With Phil Wheal. Phil is current FETAC 5 horticulture trainer and tutor at the Organic Centre in Rossinver, Co Leitrim with 20 years experience of organic growing.

A qualified permaculture designer and fruit growing specialist he has long-term experience of orchard management, forest garden design and eco-landscaping on projects throughout Ireland.

During the last 2 years he has developed apple juice production in the North West.
